Our Staff

Brian Arnold
VP of Operations
Brian graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in Horticulture in 2010. He is an avid outdoorsman with a great respect on how his career within the nursery business helps to benefit the ecosystem. Brian loves to educate the Plants of Texas customers on plant selections from installing a xeriscape perennial garden, to installing trees to create a wildlife sanctuary and everything in between. He feels that his niche within working with Plants of Texas is his love for trees and how they are used within a landscape or wildlife scape setting. Every tree is different within its own ways, but he leans towards the Black Gum as being his very favorite tree of all. If you have never checked them out, stop in and ask for Brian. He would love to tell you all about them.

Alison Bryant
VP of Marketing
Alison believes that relationships are the most vital component of any type of business transaction. She loves meeting new people and cultivating existing relationships. Alison values the time she gets to interact with the Plants of Texas customers, although, most of her time is spent working behind the scenes. You can still expect to see her and her children around on a busy weekend, so be sure to stop and say hello. Like most of her family, Alison graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a business degree. She brings 10+ years of corporate sales experience with her to Plants of Texas. She prides herself on loving houseplants since back before they were trendy and has a fiddle leaf fig tree that she is extra proud of. Her favorite décor in her home is her houseplant collection. Her most treasured time is that spent with her young children, husband, and family. She hopes to pass down the love of plants, relationships, and business to her own children one day because getting to do this with family is the most rewarding part.

Ermelanda Melendez
Plant Care Specialist / Customer Service est. 2019
After moving with her family to Texas in 2004 from Queretaro, Mexico, Ermelanda found great pleasure in plants and trees, deciding to work in the horticulture/nursery industry. Through her extensive nursery work history planting, trimming, fertilizing and using her skills for general growing and maintenance of trees, shrubs and colorful landscape plants, she has become a great asset to the retail garden industry. She loves camellias and they have become her favorite landscape plant at work as well as home. While at home she loves watering, pruning and cleaning the gardens as it has a tranquil effect.

José Villegas
Plant Care Specialist/Customer Service est. 2017
Jose and his family originate from Guerrero, Mexico, moving to Texas in the late 1980’s. Having some knowledge in horticulture and farming prior to his move, setting roots in the Texas horticulture industry comes as no surprise. His love of all things plants, from propagation and growing to finished product, only grew over time. The absolute favorite plant for him is the Encore azalea, which says a lot about his history in the industry as he was part of the select nurseries to grow the original Encore azalea. At home, he enjoys a well maintained yard, paying special attention to his azalea collection.

Gabriel Uribe
Sales Associate est. 2019
Taking plant enthusiasm to the next level and bringing customers with him through his positive energy makes customer service easy to Gaby. Through his work history at the Tyler Zoo seeing the multitude of plants species and natural beauty they present, with exotic animals in an ever changing environment, has brought his need to learn more about plants and landscapes full circle. Gaby has successfully completed training and certification through the *Proven Winners Certified education classes and received certification in spring of 2020, giving way to learning the newest plants and how to grow and care for them and help clients with their needs. Favorite plant for Gaby is the camellia Nuccio’s Bella Rosa which is a japonica species known for its unique petal formation and color that brightens up a winter garden setting when little else is showing colorful blooms. And his outdoor garden favorite is the ability to transform areas of a landscape to become living art.
Gaby says that plants, each and every one, are art. A plant is an artistic design of its one, no two matching and each one telling its own story. He enjoys shopping, road trips, home gardening and everything music. Collecting rare or unusual plants has become a hobby much like his collections of peacocks, pheasants, ducks and tropical birds.

Ashlea Katchmarik
Sales Associate est. 2020
As a new member to the Plants of Texas family, Ashlea brings motivation, and a desire to learn and help others with a huge thirst for plant knowledge. She began a career as a law enforcement dispatcher, spending more than 9 years helping others in emergent need. Fall of 2020, her want to make a change and a love of houseplants led her to horticulture and an achievable career, following a path she holds an enormous interest in. In February 2021, a Proven Winners certification will be achieved adding to a growing accomplishment list. As for a favorite plant, indoor of course, the fiddle leaf fig is at the top of the list allowing stress reduction and decompression from the day to come naturally when working with and maintaining them.
Ashlea enjoys exploring nature around home and through travel. Her home life is shared with two loving dogs but much of her time is spent acquiring as many houseplants as possible and, with time, learning each plants likes, dislikes and specific needs while watching them grow.
