Ferment Like You Mean It! (Food Fermentation How-to Class)

Beginners can open the lid on a magical world of kimchi, sauerkraut, sour dough, water kefir, and brine fermented vegetables. Perhaps you want to jump into fermented beverages like kombucha or learn to preserve the garden harvest without canning. You'll learn to preserve the natural way- focusing on fermenting and discover how live foods come to life! You will leave class with your own SCOBY and a better understanding of the process of vegetable fermentations including salsa and sauerkraut. Come to learn the healing benefits of fermentation. This class will be taught by Ruth Baugh from Baugh's Market and Event Venue. The class fee is $25. This class will be held at the NEW Plants of Texas location. This class will NOT be held at the tent. The class will take place in the smaller building (receiving dock) behind the main/large building you see from the road. All About Fruit Trees and Berries

Join Plants of Texas and our guest speaker, Dr. David Creech for a deep dive into how to find success growing fruit trees and berries here in East Texas. With the prices of food rising, now is the time to learn how to grow your own fruit for years to come. Dr. Creech is a past professor of Horticulture and is the current director of the Mast Arboretum at Stephen F. Austin State University. He has a vast knowledge of woody ornamentals, shade, and fruit tree varieties for our East Texas area. Dr. Creech is a great speaker and educator, and we anticipate this class filling up very quickly. This class will deep dive into varieties such as, blueberries, muscadines, figs, persimmons, feijoas, peaches, plums, pears, and apples. Dr. Creech will overview different varieties that work for our area and will dive deeper into proper planting, pruning, care and culture. The class fee is $25. Intermediate Beekeeping Class

Welcome to Intermediate Beekeeping! We will continue to build upon the topics we learned in the Beginner Beekeeping class. One step closer to you feeling confident in owning your own hive! Daniel Lennon with Flint Farm & Apiary will be conducting this class. This class will cover hive inspections, recognizing brood patterns, harvesting honey, and bee behavior. You will also have the opportunity to purchase bees, hives, and beekeeping accessories (suits, gloves, smokers, etc.) at this class (to be picked up at a later date).
