One of the very best classic magnolia varieties – just make sure you have plenty of space to accommodate this stately (and by stately we mean BIG), pyramidal stunner that can grow to 80-feet tall! ‘DD Blanchard’ has lush, dark green evergreen leaves with a fuzzy, bronze texture and color to the undersides of the leaves. The gigantic fragrant white flowers grace your garden from mid-spring through early-summer. The foot-wide flowers are followed by cone-like fruiting clusters that release rose-red coated seeds in fall. This magnolia is known for its sturdy straight central trunk, which allows you to let it grow naturally with branches that touch the ground, or prune it up from the bottom as a classic standard specimen. A wonderful habitat tree for local wildlife and birds, but deer-resistant.
