Details

Joining the Formosa collection of azaleas, Purple Formosa has all of the same valuable growth characteristics with an unforgettable purple hue. The larger 2.5–3” flowers cover the plant in the spring, after which the evergreen foliage takes center stage. The leaves start out a paler green, then mature to a darker green that provides interest and structure to the garden in the winter months. Purple Formosa does an excellent job at screening undesirable views while providing a wall of jewel-toned color and is striking when planted in mass in the woodland garden. Plan to give it regular and deep watering in the year after planting, then keep the soil evenly moist to ensure healthy growth each year. When the bloom has finished in the spring, lightly prune and properly fertilize to encourage an abundance of bloom next year.
